Radio Alphabet

So why do you need to learn your alphabet? I’ll tell you why. Police and fire use codes and the phonetic alphabet to explain information to dispatch and each other.

If you are in route to a call and dispatch tells you to go to apartment number 102B, you might not know if they said b or d or p? Dispatch will say 102 Baker and then you will know exactly where you are going.

The next time you are riding in the car look at everyone’s license plates and practice your radio skills. If you see 123ABC, then you need to say 123 adam, baker, charles.

Try using the alphabet to spell your name:

john, adam, king, edward = Jake.

Radio Codes

The next time someone calls you to dinner, you can answer “Code 2” and when you get to the table you can say “Code 1.”

If your mom tells you to hurry, you can let her know you are “Code 3.”
